Rev. Kazee (1900-70) has been heard here before, Born in Burton's Fork, Kentucky, he left his banjo behind when he went off to college, only to Find that his English professors were presenting, as valuable relics of antiquity, the very same ballads he had been singing at home. Like many young musicians before and since, he brought his banjo to school, and soon found himself in great demand as a performer. By 1927 he had his college degree and some vocal training, and was a Baptist minister with a church in Ashland, Kentucky. A local music store owner talked him into auditioning for the Brunswick company, who recorded him extensively, but never knew quite what to make of him and the trained voice he resolutely refused to abandon.

    Buell Kazee, vocal, banjo.
