Dock Boggs was born in Wise County, Virginia in 1898. He went to work in the coal mines at age 12, but always really wanted to be a musician. He pretty much invented his own unique banjo style, and was especially fond of blues. When the Brunswick Record Company held auditions in Norton, Boggs was selected to go to New York to record. Boggs returned to Wise County, playing music on and off wntil he was "rediscovered" inthe 1960s. Finally being the professional musician he'd always wanted to be, he recorded and toured until his death in 1970.
