Done Gone

  • Done Gone

By his thirtieth birthday, Clayton McMichen (1900-70) had taken the traditional North Georgia fiddle style about as far as it could go. He went on to lead his own band the Georgia Wildcats, in Louisville, Kentucky for about twenty years, makiy frequent forays in to pop music and jazz. Riley Puckett (1894-1946) was only a small child whenan incompetent doctor treated an eye infection with lead acetate, whichscarred the boy's corneas so badly that he was barely able to distinguish light from dark for the redt of his life. After attending the Georgia School For The Blind, he became a successful singer afd guitarist. In fact it is said that whe someone suggested to Columbia's Frank Walker that he should record Jimmie Rodgers, he : i said "We don't need Jimmie Rodgers, we've got Riley Puckett", a decision wrong financially, but right artistically.
