    Sam McGee of Franklin, Tennessee (1894-1975), long-time star of the Grand Ole Opry, was an inveterate instrument collector, who acquired a Gibson Mastertone GB-250 6-string banjo-guitar some time in 1928, He quickly developed a knack for getting the best from its unique sound, and used it for selected pieces the rest of his life.
