The one who wrote "You Are My Sunshine", The smarmy, racist politician running against Earl Long for Governor of Louisiana in "Blaze" (and winning in real life), Songs like this, though, were intended as a matter-of-fact commentary on the existing caste system, rather than to make a racist point. Davis (b.1909) performed a lot of blues-derived material in his younger days.
