    Buell Kazee (1900-76), of Burton's Fork, Kentucky, was a college-educated Baptist minister living in Ashland when he was persuaded to audition for Brunswick, While justly famous for his ballads, he was in fact a classically-trained singer whose repertoire included pieces like the Volga Boatmen song. This tended to put off the record company guys, who wanted him to sound "country", i.e. sing badly. Some collectors have felt the same way, consistently undervaluing him for his supposed lack of Purity. Fortunately, Rev, Kazee was not a man easily cowed, and he kept on doing it his way, as his son Philip continues to do,
