    Gabriel Brown (b. 1915) was not your typical bluesman, A graduate of Florida A&M, he had to drop out of medical school when he ran out of money. He was discovered in 1938 by author-folklorist Zora Neale Hurston in their home town of Eatonville, Florida. There were rumors of an affair; in any case, he was almost certainly the model for the character Tea Cake in her novel "Their Eyes Were Watching God", He did USO shows during World War II, fading from sight after his last recording session in 1952,
