    Gwin Foster was born in 1903 in Caldwell County, North Carolina, but lived most of his life just outside Gastonia in the small town of Dallas. In addition to his sides with Ashley, he recorded with Dock Walsh and Dave Fletcher, He worked occasionally on radio in the 30's, but kept his day job as a millworker almost until his death in 1954, Bay Rum sold very well during Prohibition, It contained about 70 percent alcohol; and although it was supposed to be too unpalatable to drink, many brave souls proved equal to the task,
