  • The Burial Of Wild Bill

Music by Stoneman, words by Captain Jack Crawford, The Cowboy Poet. Ernest Van Stoneman (1893-1968) of Galax had a brief but spectacular run as a recording artist in the 1920's, and another burst of fame in his later years as several of his children rose to prominence. It is one of the ironies of his generally ironic career that his performances with the Jenkins father - son team from Dobson, NC -- among his finest -— were done just as the country recording boom of the 1920's was fading into oblivion, and that none of the records bore his name, this one having been sold only by Sears Roebuck under the bogus name of "Alex Gordon",

Ernest Stoneman, vocal, guitar; Frank Jenkins, fiddle; Oscar Jenkins, banjo.
