    The son of Noted Kentucky fiddler Phil "Doc" Roberts, James Roberts (1917-) began recording as a teenager in the 30's, After World War II he performed with his wife Irene Amburgey as "James and Martha Carson, the Radio Sweethearts", recording a series of gospel duets unsurpassed to this day, many on the obscure White Church label. After the marriage and the act broke up he played bluegrass mandolin for a while with the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, then more or less retired from music, though he . still plays occasionally,
