Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss

  • Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss

A lively Merry Christmas from Gid and the gang. Atlanta's own Skillet Lickers, already Columbia's hottest and most successful country band, got a lot hotter in 1928 when Lowe Stokes (1898-1985) took over as lead fiddler. Gid (1885-1960), more an entertainer than a musician, was mainly the front man and comedian, while McMichen (1900-70), though a fine fiddler, was much less aggressive than Stokes. Riley (1892-1946) was the most popular of the group, as much for his singing as for his guitar playing.

Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers: Lowe Stokes, Clayton McMichen, Gid Tanner, fiddles; Fate Norris, banjo; Riley Puckett, guitar, vocal.
