A Good Man Is Hard To Find

Victoria Spivey was born in Houston, Texas in 1906. A member of the Thomas family -- and Sippie Wallace's cousin- she, of course, sang, played piano, and wrote songs like the rest of them. She moved to New York in the 20s, and remained active in music for years; by the 1960s, she was performing, recording blues singers for her own Spivey record label, and writing a column for Record Research magazine, and running rings around the younger folks, until her death in 1976.

Victoria Spivey, vocal; Porter Grainger, piano; Lonnie Johnson, guitar.
