    James Cowan Powers was born in Russell County, Virginia in 1877, and lived there all his life, After his wife's death in 1917, he decided to become a full-time musician, forming a family band with his son and daughters. Eventually, the girls grew up and married. Charlie joined the army in 1928, and died in 1942 during the infamous Bataan death march of World War II. Fiddlin' Powers went on fiddling for years, until one day in 1953, when, playing "Cluck Old Hen" onstage with the Stanley Brothers, he had a heart attack and died. What a perfect way to go...
