Tommy Rockwell, at the beginning of a long and varied career in the music business, traveled through Mississippi in the summer of 1927, scouting talent for an OKeh recording session in Memphis the following winter. In addition to the more famous Mississippi John Hurt, he most likely found Tom Dickson, about whom, however, nothing is known beyond bluesman Joe Calicott's vague recollection that he "Played around Memphis",
