    Whenever the late Bill Monroe was asked if there were any old-time musicians he respected, he always mentioned Clayton McMichen, Born in Alatoona, Georgia in 1900, McMichen lived in Atlanta until the early 30s, performing with several groups including the renowned Skillet Lickers. He soon became bored with what he referred to as "swamp opera", and began experimenting with jazz styles, one of the first country musicians to do so. In later years he lived in Louisville, Kentucky, dying there in 1970, Riley Puckett (1890-1946) was especially famous for his unusual guitar runs, prominently featured in this performance,
