    David Harrison Macon (1870-1952) was not altogether the jolly old fellow of popular image. As a teenager he saw his father stabbed to death in a Nashville street; his wife detested his music and made his most talented son swear never to play; and he was hospitalized several times for severe depression. Still, nobody was up like Uncle Dave when he was up, He never recorded again after this session, but continued as a regular on the Grand Ole Opry until the month of his death,
