    Written in 1899 by Kerry Mills, complete with the racially offensive words, "Whistling Rufus" had become a traditional standard by the 1920s. Natives of Franklin, Tnnessee, Sam(1894-1975) and Kirk (1899-1983) were stars of the Grand Old Opry for decades.
