    A full year before the alleged beginning of country music recording, Alexander Campbell Robertson (1887-1975) of Amarillo, Texas, showed up at the Victor studios in New York, announcing that he had come to make records. A company representative, intending to brush him off, agreed to listen to a brief sample of his playing. Astounded at what he heard, he invited Eck back the next day, when this classic of the Texas contest fiddling style was recorded,
