  • Snow Bird On The Ash Bank

    Fiddler Henry McCray, from the Catawba section of Roanoke County, Virginia, taught his sons to play, as his father had taught him, Beginning in 1925, the family band ~-- who never called themselves the "Salem Highballers" -- performed on WDBJ inRoanoke; and ihn 1929 they traveled to Richmond to record. The McCrays continued to play around the Roanoke area for many years, but never recorded again.
