Wild Horse

  • Wild Horse

A classic performance by a classic band. More typically their recordings featured a vocal by Poole (1892-1931). The half-dozen fiddle pieces by his brother-in-law Rorer (1891-1936) led to a major change in the band. The royalties on the instrumental records were supposed to go to Rorer, but Charlie got the check and, typically, promptly drank all the money up. Rorer quit the band, and Poole hired Lonnie Austin, beginning a move toward a more modern jazz—influenced sound.

The North Carolina Ramblers. Posey Rorer, fiddle; Charlie Poole, banjo; Roy Harvey, guitar.
